Why heat thermoforming over vacuum?

Heat thermoforming provides a few significant advantages over vacuum for superior clinical outcomes and better-fitting products:

• Precise fit into interproximal spaces, undercuts, and sharp line angles
• Elimination of small air gaps between the plastic and the tooth model
• Uniform distribution of pressure provides a balanced thickness of material across the entire device

Heat thermoforming uses positive air pressure to apply multi-directional force from above, whereas vacuum formers rely only on negative suction from below.

In orthodontic applications, this translates to better control and more predictable tooth movement and tighter retention.

For mouthguards, this provides dense, even protection without wear or thin spots in the material.
